For years, we’ve had this practice of painting all 4 walls of a room the same color. Why we shall never know. Perhaps there’s a pleasant sense of symmetry and harmony in that, but to be very honest, it can get to be a bit of a drag.
Accent walls are the perfect way to break tradition. Not only do you play around with colors in an interesting manner, but it also helps draw the eyes to one particular part of the room that you’d like to highlight.
Now that you’ve got your heart set on an accent wall, the easiest way to create one would be to paint the 4th side of the room a different color. But since we’re doing away with convention, let’s explore a few interesting alternatives for accent walls.
Decals are extremely versatile, no-fuss, no-hassle options to spice up your walls. Available in virtually endless designs and patterns, you can pick up something that’s minimalistic or go completely overboard with an elaborate one. And since they’re so easy to stick and peel, you could change the look of your wall with a totally different decal every other month. Talk about variety!
We may not have been able to wrap our heads around the subject in school, but geometric lines have an extremely soothing effect on the mind. There’s just something about those straight, no-nonsense patterns that radiate calmness. So peaceful. So quiet. So relaxing. Sssshhhh …
The World Map
Meh, you say? We’re not talking about those unappealing maps we had to stare at in our books. There is any number of aesthetically pleasing world maps that, when blown up, look absolutely stunning on the wall. And they’re a great way to remind you of your travel ambitions as well. Two for the price of one!
Textured Stone Finish
If you want a truly luxurious look for your home, consider a stone feature wall. Depending on the material you select, you can create some fairly intricate designs that will ooze style and elegance. Even something like a bare red brick wall can have a huge impact if you know how to work it.
Rustic Wooden Beauty
Excuse me? Did we hear that right? Wooden walls? Yep, you did. Wooden accent walls are becoming the rage and the end result is a room that exudes warmth and smartness, while also retaining a slightly rustic flavor. How charming! You can use wooden logs, wooden pallets, or even old window panels – the effect is going to be just as wow!
Why just hang up artwork when you can turn your entire wall into a work of art? Watercolor accents may be experimental right now, but given how stunning they look, we believe they’re going to be extremely popular very soon. Be a trendsetter and give your walls an artistic makeover. You’ll have everybody near and far swooning over them. For sure.
After animations and superhero movies have made 3D super cool and exciting, it’s time to apply the same technology to your walls. 3D panels can really spruce up space and give it that flair that you simply cannot hope to achieve with regular walls. I mean, we did intend to make the walls pop, but this is really something, isn’t it?
Love the written word? Then a wall with your favorite words printed on it is the straightforward choice for you, isn’t it? The lines from a poem, a paragraph from your favorite novel, or something quite original penned by you … almost anything can be turned into a wallpaper these days for an extremely wordy feature wall for your home.
There are walls, there are painted walls and then, there are accent walls. And, once you choose the last option – your living spaces will never be the same again. It might get a bit confusing in the beginning, choosing one among so many tempting options for your living space. Some people don’t even know where to start looking.
But as long as you have the inclination, imagination, and resources, there are almost endless ways in which you can make that one wall in your living room or bedroom stand out. From photographs to mirrors to tapestry to greenery – anything can be used to make an accent wall. It all boils down to what catches your fancy eventually.
