After investing a considerable amount of time and money on buying the perfect linen set for your bedroom, if you think your responsibility ends there, you are sadly mistaken. Be it bed sheets, bed covers, comforters, pillows, and throws, they require to be washed and ironed properly and regularly so that they maintain a fresh look.
However, many of us don’t pay attention to the do’s and don’t’s of looking after premium bed linen and eventually end up blaming the quality of the product when it begins to show signs of neglect. Let’s take a look at a few tips that will help you care for your bed linen and keep it looking good for years to come.
1. Know the Fabric:
While linen (fabric made of flax seeds) sheets work best for a hotter climate, cotton sheets are ideal for every season. Linen fabric doesn’t get spoiled for decades and cotton becomes a softer fabric after repeated washings.
2. Don’t Over-Bleach:
Bleaching is a good option to remove stains but that’s not the only option. And if that’s the only way to clean the product, then go for non-chlorine bleach.
3. Avoid Ironing Cotton:
The best quality of cotton linen is that it looks great even when un-ironed. Next time, you take your precious linen out of the washing machine or dryer, just fold it properly and put it away till such time that you need to use it.
4. Don’t Overload the Washing Machine:
Avoid this if you are specifically washing your bed linen. Also, avoid putting a lot of detergents. The fewer chemicals you use, the better it is for the fabric.
5. Handwash Embroidered Linen:
It’s better to play it safe than be sorry later. Don’t put fragile and delicate linen in the washing machine. Wash them yourself and use minimum detergent.
